Can’t view photos or click links in outlook express 6

I can no longer view pictures in OE 6 when receiving email. Photos show up as blank boxes with a red X - I clicked on options>tools>and security. The block images is UNchecked. Clickable links no longer work either. I haven’t installed or done anything that I can think of to bring this on. My OS is Windows XP. Thanks in advance.
