Kingston Releases more SSDNow V Series Drives

We reviewed one of the original Kingston SSDNow V Series drives here at OCC back in October, when it earned our gold award. Kingston will soon be shipping the second generation of drives in the series, coming in capacities of 30GB, 64GB and 128GB. As with other SSDNow drives, they aim to provide an easy upgrade process for mainstream users, so are available both as standalone drives or in bundles for desktops or notebooks. Those bundles include Acronis cloning software, an installation guide, plus mounting hardware for the desktop version or an external enclosure in the notebook version. Being second generation drives, they offer improved performance and the addition of Windows 7 TRIM support. Sequential performance numbers as per Kingston internal testing are as follows:

  • 30GB: up to 180MB/s read, 50MB/s write
  • 64GB: up to 200MB/s read, 110MB/s write
  • 128GB: up to 200MB/s read, 160MB/s write

Kingston is once again aiming to keep prices reasonable (for SSDs), with the drives starting at a MSRP of $109.99 for the 30GB standalone drive up to $377.00 for the 128GB bundle version. You should be able to pick them up from February 15th (March 1st for the 30GB version).
